We have a favourite little spot that we love to stay at when we’re in California – in a gorgeous small town called Boulder Creek.
Boulder Creek is located in the heart of the Santa Cruz Mountains, approximately 60 miles south of San Francisco. Boulder Creek
is the gateway town to Big Basin Redwoods State Park, which is California’s oldest State Park, founded in 1902. And did I mention
it is quaint?! With only a minimal population, this town exudes ‘the small town feel’. The main street boasts everything from laundromat
to restaurants, to drug stores and an organic market. It is just brilliant!
And located just up from the main street is Hartman Inn. Tamara and her partner Greg are a huge part of the charm of this accommodation.
They are great people! Tamara’s knowledge of gardens and garden landscaping, along with her passion for this property combine to make her
the perfect hostess. And she is a devoted animal lover as is apparent by her collection of pets.
Both times we’ve stayed at Hartman Inn we’ve stayed in the Carriage House which is overflowing with charm. The Carriage house is an historic
cottage that has an open plan living arrangement. It also has a fully equipped kitchen if you want to make your own meals, or the other
option is to explore the local restaurants just a few steps away on the main street.
Just recently Tamara and Greg gained two new family members. George and Ida May are two beautiful miniature donkeys and they will keep
you entertained for hours! (If they were any smaller, I’d pack them in my suitcase and bring them home!) They are delightful!
And while you’re in Boulder Creek you should definitely take the short drive to the Big Basin Redwoods. They are simply amazing! The Henry
Cowell Redwoods State Park is also close by and contains a centuries old Redwood Grove and a self guided nature path. Not to forget there
are many local wineries and also Santa Cruz and the ocean are a mere half hour drive down the valley.
If you’re looking for the perfect weekend getaway, or if you’re travelling to California, make sure to take the time to stop in Boulder Creek and
book yourself a few nights at Hartman Inn. You won’t be disappointed, I promise! If nothing else, you’ll want to come back for the charm, for
the people, and of course, for the Salted Caramels that Tamara lovingly makes!! (You just can’t stop at one!!)
